The best way to build your portfolio is to get in front of the camera at a professional studio.

Simple shots without much makeup or too many accessories are always best; because you’re selling your ability to be a model. The Studio shoots profile photographs so can advise on the basic elements that agencies generally look for when viewing portfolio images.

You will need a variety of different looks for your portfolio, so make sure you bring various wardrobe options. Keep your clothing simple and choose clothes that fits you well or best accentuates your features, nothing too loose or tight fitting. It’s advisable to stay away from prints and patterns.

We have a package that includes a 30 minutes’ shoot, with 3 x high resolution edited images in both colour and b&w. This is a perfect option for the first few images that you will need to start your career.

Make sure you include a great head shot that clearly depicts your face with minimal make up, a body shot and a few shots showing different outfits.

A simple shoot is a great way to start your portfolio, but if you need a bit more variety there are many other options that you can consider.

Beauty shots allow for more dramatic makeup and poses, while fashion shots are more crafted with makeup corresponding to clothing. Include swimwear shots if you’d like to go into commercial modelling and styled editorial shots that you see in magazine features are centred around a story of central concept.

You could also book a professional makeup artist and stylist – we could recommend some industry experts that will know what is expected. For these shoots you’ll have to book more time in for your shoot.
