Brides Name: Nashua Abouelola
Grooms Name: Simon Poidevin
When did you get engaged?
She said: We got engaged in July 2013 at Airlie Beach. It was the night before our first trip to the Great Barrier Reef.
He said: July 31st 2013, near the Great Barrier Reef in Australia.
How did you first meet?
She said: We met at my ex Vice Principal’s house back when I was a teacher. I beat him at poker 🙂
He said: At a couple of friends’ apartment, playing cards.
When/how did you first fall in love with your significant other?
She said: There was no defining moment. I just woke up one day and realised I had met my Prince Charming.
He said: No particular time, I felt connected to Nashua very early in our relationship and it has not stopped since.
What’s the most memorable date you’ve had?
She said: Last year, we went on a romantic getaway to a secluded cabin in the rainforest near the Sunshine Coast in QLD, Australia. Best weekend ever!
He said: A great weekend in the rainforest in Australia, secluded from the rest of the world.
What quality do you most admire about the other person?
She said: He’s so caring. I know he would do anything for me and do anything to protect me.
He said: Nashua is very passionate about her hobbies.
What was the best engagement/wedding present you received?
She said: My friend did a cross-stitch of us in wedding attire as an engagement gift. I truly admire the amount of time and effort she put into it.
He said: Our best gift was to have most of our closest friends from around the world with us to celebrate our wedding in Dubai.
How would you describe the style of your wedding?
She said: It was totally a classy geek wedding 🙂
He said: Very mixed themes: Beauty and the Beast as the main theme with poker, super heroes and Japan as secondary themes.
What was the most fun detail of your wedding to plan?
She said: I honestly can’t pinpoint one thing in particular. Every little detail was carefully planned out…maybe the 1000 paper cranes we made! That was something that was very meaningful for me as I have a soft spot for Japan and my favourite book as a child was ‘Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes’.
He said: Folding one thousand origami cranes as it is the tradition in Japan, it took us the record time of 6 weeks! We kept these paper cranes as a souvenir in our apartment (lovely wall fixture!)
What was the most difficult detail of your wedding to agree upon?
She said: The box that the ring bearer was carrying! We wanted something that was relevant to one of our many themes, and it was difficult to think of something that would be quirky, yet subtle.
He said: None, we took a quite democratic approach to the planning.
What do you look most forward to: the wedding day, the wedding night, the honeymoon?
She said: HONEYMOON!!!! 🙂 We went to Japan for two weeks for our honeymoon and timed it so we were there when the cherry blossoms were in bloom… boy that was amazing! We had a blast! We can’t wait to go back 🙂
He said: Honeymoon in Japan
What was the most unique detail at your wedding ceremony/reception?
She said: Everything was unique. It all had a purpose and there was an idea/reference behind every detail made. Maybe the fact that I chose ankle boots as my wedding shoes and hand painted them to look like the shoes of one of my favourite comic book characters (Harley Quinn). It was fun surprising everyone with my shoes and tights!!
He said: Super hero pictures
What moment of your wedding day were you most nervous about?
She said: The first dance. I backed out in the end and honestly I’m glad I did. It wasn’t ‘for me’.
He said: The ceremony – I wanted everything to be right for Nashua.
How do you feel now that the wedding is over?
She said: Relieved that most things went as planned!
He said: Relaxed! It was a great day and evening but very stressful
Why did you choose the Studio?
They said: We were really happy when we saw The Studio. Jess was so helpful and we felt comfortable knowing that our quirkiness was appreciated! Thank you guys so much!! 🙂
